Raststaetten - Rest areas

Wenn man auf der Autobahn in Oesterreich entlang faehrt und eine Pause machen moechte, kann man eben bei diesen Raststaetten stehen bleiben, egal in welche Richtung man jetzt faehrt. Autos die zum Beispiel sowohl noerdlich als auch suedlich fahren, koennen dieselbe Raststaette anfahren. Nicht so in Virginia. Befindet sich die Raststaette auf der gegenueberliegenden Seite, dann kann man diese hier nicht in Anspruch nehmen. Oft gibt es daher auf beiden Seiten Raststaetten. Es kann aber auch sein, dass es sie nur eine auf einer Seite gibt. Man kann daher hier nicht dieselben Raststaetten auf der Retourfahrt ansteuern wie bei der Hinfahrt.


When you drive on the autobahn in Austria and want to take a break you can stop at one of the rest areas, no matter in what direction you are driving. Cars which go both south and north, as an example, can get to the same rest area. Not in Virginia. If the rest area is on the other side of the road you can't get to it. Therefore there are often rest areas on both sides. Not always though. That's why you can't stop at the same rest areas on the drive there and back.
