Table or Booth?

Wenn man hier in ein Restaurant kommt, gibt es in der Regel einen "Gastgeber/in", der/die fuer die Sitzordnung zustaendig ist. Man wird gefragt, aus wievielen Personen die Gruppe besteht, in manchen Faellen ob man in einem Raucher- oder Nichtraucherbereich sitzen moechte und schliesslich zuletzt ob man lieber in einem "booth" oder an einem Tisch sitzen wuerde. Dabei handelt es sich um Sitzbaenke, deren hohe Rueckwand eine Abtrennung zwischen den Tischen ist. Gibt's einen Unterschied? Ich finde schon.
Mir sind diese Abteilungen lieber, weil man dadurch von den anderen Gaesten abgeschirmt ist. Zumindest optisch. Es ist nicht immer gerade leise und oft hoert man sehr gut jedes Wort was im Nachbarsabteil gesagt wird. In der Mitte des Raumes befinden sich dann diDe normalen Tische mit Stuehlen. Ich finde die nicht so bequem, nachdem die Sitzbaenke alle gepolstert sind und die Stuehle nicht. Der Nachteil der Abteilungen ist, dass man unter Umstaenden nicht soviel Platz hat wie an normalen Tischen. Man kann die Baenke nicht zurechtschieben, wie man es vielleicht gern moechte. Mir kommt vor, als ob die meisten diese Abteilungen bevorzugen. Wenn das Restaurant nicht besonders voll ist, sind die normalen Tische meist unbesetzt.
Was ist euch lieber?
In Oesterreich gibt es diese Abteilungen ja nicht so. Daher auch kein Streit darum und man braucht auch nicht diese Gastgeber, die einem einen Sitzplatz zuteilen.

When you get to a restaurant here there is usually a host or hostess, who is responsible for seating the guests. They ask you how many people are in the party, in some cases if you would prefere a smoking or non-smoking section, and always if you want to sit in a booth or at a table.
Is there a difference? I think so.
I prefer a booth because you are shielded from the other customers. At least visually. Sometimes it's quite loud and you can hear every word which is spoken in the neighborly booth. In the middle of the room there are the normal tables with chairs. I find the chairs not as comfortable like the padded seats in the booth. The disadvantage from a booth is that space might be tight. You can't move the bench away from the table like you might like to do it with a chair. It seems to me that most people prefer a booth. When the restaurant is not very crowded, the table sections are usually empty.
What do you prefer?

In Austria there are usually only tables. No need to fight for a booth. No host to prevent a fight.
