In my parents' garden there were lots of those potato beetles this year. My dad said that those were dropped by the Americans in the war to destroy the crops. That's the first time that I ever heard any of that and I didn't really want to believe it. I asked Sek, if he knew something about it, but he had never heard of this before either. I finally found some time to read up on it: those rumors have been around as propganda for more than 60 years - first used by the Nazis, later by the Sovjets. The beetles have been in Europe since the 19th century though. I find it interesting, that disinformation like this still exists so many years later in the general public.

Desinformation / Disinformation
In my parents' garden there were lots of those potato beetles this year. My dad said that those were dropped by the Americans in the war to destroy the crops. That's the first time that I ever heard any of that and I didn't really want to believe it. I asked Sek, if he knew something about it, but he had never heard of this before either. I finally found some time to read up on it: those rumors have been around as propganda for more than 60 years - first used by the Nazis, later by the Sovjets. The beetles have been in Europe since the 19th century though. I find it interesting, that disinformation like this still exists so many years later in the general public.

diese story kenne ich auch...
Kartoffelkäfer wurden von den Amerikanern nach Deutschland gebracht um die Ernte zu vernichten sagten die Bauern oftmals. (vielleicht sogar noch heute)

Der Kartoffelkäfer hat seine Heimat in Colorado (USA) und hat sich von dort zusammen mit der Kartoffelkultur weltweit verbreitet. Er richtet in Kartoffelfeldern großen Schaden an.
Andrea: vielleicht haengt das mit dem Generationenunterschied zusammen? Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass viele aehnliche Gerueche in den Jahren nach dem Krieg im Umlauf waren.

Guild rez: Ja, ich hab die Information auch bei Wikipedia (und ein paar anderen Seiten) gefunden.
Auch ich erinnere mich an diese Mär. Leider machen sich nicht viele Menschen die Mühe, solche Geschichten zu hinterfragen. Schön, daß Du bei solchen Themen nachhakst.
