Chips oder Pommes? Potato Chips or French Fries?

Why is it that some areas in the US, especially western Virginia and southern Pennsylvania, prefer serving potato chips instead of French Fries as a side dish? At least yesterday's were homemade and not just heaten from a bag. And they gave you a choice which ones you wanted, although French Fries would have been 1 Dollar more.

Burgers often come with chips back in my home state, Iowa. Usually ruffled chips from a bag. It's for a picnicky feel :) At least that's how it always makes me feel.

I always assumed that some places serve potato chips because they're less work, but I didn't realize it was a geographic thing. And homemade chips are just as much work, so I guess that blows my theory :-(

c_n_Heidelberg: you're from Iowa? Cool, my best friend from high school just moved to Iowa. She thinks they're staying for good, or at least until her kids are out of high school - and as her youngest is just a year old that's a pretty long time :-)

It's always French Fries here in Idaho. Of course, we love our potatoes anyway we can get them!

C N Heidelberg: I never got the picnicky feel:( The first time I had them, I was rather annoyed of not having "normal" fries..

Martina: Good theory, even if it doesn't always fit:)

Victoria: Can't go wrong with that:)

It's always french fries with a meal where I come from (Vancouver, B.C.)

:-) LG Andrea

Christina: Welcome to my blog! I think I remember reading somewhere on your blog that your dad is Austrian:)

Andrea: Das war Seks Essen. Ich bin kein allzu grosser Burger-Fan:)
